An exciting feature of Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 is the ability of the end user to install a new Operating System without formatting or loosing files or access to them.

The Feature allows users to install a new copy of windows and still have access to your old documents.

How?

  1.  insert you installation media or start the installation from the windows interface
  2. When asked weather Upgrade of Custom instllation select Custom
  3. When asked where you want the oprating system installed select the drive that has your current Operating system
  4. The system will then caution and tell you that you files will be moved to a folder Windows.old on your hard drive after installation
  5. When all installation procedures are through, just go to your drive C: in My Computer, open the folder Windows.old, open the folder Users and select your user name and view your files, safe and intact.
