The question to be answered when faced with this challenge is "WHAT MAKES ONE PC DIFFERENT FROM ANOTHER" When answered one acquires the ability to make a well-informed decision when choosing a computer being it a laptop or desktop computer..

SO WHAT MAKES ONE COMPUTER DIFFERENT FROM ANOTHER?

The various components within a given Laptop or Desktop computer when outlined in full give a full computer specification and these specifications when weighed against each other in line with the required application  provides one adequate and necessary information paramount to choosing a long lasting computer for any given application.

THE VARIOUS COMPUTER COMPONENTS THAT MAKE UP A FULL SPECIFICATION

The different computer components that make up a full computer specification are:

  1. Processor: Type and Speed
  2. Graphic Card (Graphic Processor): Type and Memory Size
  3. Random Access Memory (RAM): Type and Size
  4. Hard Drive: Size, Type and Speed
  5. Cache: Size
  6. Universal Serial Bus: Type and Speed
The aforementioned components are found in both laptop and desktop computers and it should be noted that the only differrence between laptop and desktop computer is size and not function, performance or processing capabilities.

For the purpose of this article we'll discuss only processors and Graphic Cards, this is because these are the two major components that significantly affect the applicability of a system to any given task, which in turn affects the lifespan any given system.

PROCESSORS

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH TYPE OF PROCESSOR TO BUY?

There is a general myth that goes around that says that a computer with an INTEL processors is  better than a computer with an AMD processor, this is in one word a MYTH, its impossible to make such a statement without all the facts. The following specific computer processor of the Laptop or desktop must be clearly stated before such a statement can be made. In summary the feature of the processors being compared must be outlined. This can be easily done with the user friendly computer processor benchmark shown below

From the non-exhaustive list of Common computer processors seen on this benchmark that goes top to bottom, any processor above another is better based on exhaustive tests. details for a list of computer processors not available on this list can be found HERE.

GRAPHIC PROCESSORS

The same procedure should also follow when choosing a graphic processor for your computer bearing in mind that high end graphic cards are for application in gaming laptops or desktop computer and high end graphic applications and not for office use. An exhausive list of the different types of computer graphic processors can be found HERE.

BENCHMARKS CAN BE FOUND FOR THE FOLLOWING

Other computer components also have effect on the overall performance of the PC. Select appropriately to check the benchmark for the following computer components.

HARD DRIVES

RAM

If you want to check out a few laptop and desktop computer benchmarks which i feel is not for the average PC user check HERE you will be totally Wowed at what laptops and desktop computers can be....
