If you have a flash or external HDD you use on different PC’s you would have come across a time when all your files suddenly disappear and are replaced by shortcuts on a friends or some business center PC. its even more annoying if you have a good antivirus on your own PC, ‘cos on returning the device to your system you’ll find out that the antivirus wipes out all the shortcuts and you’re left with nothing and then you’re stranded. when you check the details of the device in my computer the amount of used space is still the same but you cant find the files. You’re in the right place for the solution to this problem, just follow the simple steps below and you’ll be smiling in no time.

Step 1

open command prompt as an administrator

Step 2

Change the drive letter to that of the device by typing the appropriate letter attached to the device in my computer Z: is the drive letter of the connected disk, so type
MISSING FILES ON HARD DRIVE, FLASH DRIVE,

Z:

this will change the prompt location to the drive with the  issue

Step 3

copy this;

attrib -s -h -a /s /d z:\*.*

and paste in the command prompt.Where z is your own drive letter

Step 4

Press enter and allow the command execute

Step 5

If you have cleared the device of the virus prior to running this, all your files and folder should be visible
