There are sometimes for one reason or the other, you forget or somehow mixup you passwords and no longer have access to your system again, this can really be very annoying, confusing and stressful and that is why I’m writing this post ‘cos so many times people call me with this issue and helping them is usually a bit difficult if they are not close by.
Now a few in a few simple steps I’ll show you what to do.

Windows Xp
Now if your Operating system is windows xp, most likely your operating system was installed without an administrator password, so when your system boots up press CTRL+ALT+DEL+DEL (i.e. press CTRL hold, then press ALT hold and then tap DEL twice, this will change the logon screen, now just change the username on the logon screen to Administrator and press enter, this should take you to the administrators desktop. from here you can use the control panel to create a new user and move your files from your previous user to the new one you created (to learn how to do this click here). This is usually quick and resolves the problem without having to download anything, however if your operating system was installed with an Administrator password, you’ll have to follow the steps below too.

XP, VISTA, WIN 7,WIN 8
Now if your going to do this you’ll need the following
1.Internet connection on another PC
2.An External Hard disk connector or CD Drive (if your system does not have an internal CD Drive)
3. The App to change or unlock the password
Now there are two ways to get the job done

Method 1

Using another PC to  achieve this
In this method you’ll need to have an External HDD connector for your Hard drive.

step 1

Load the Iso on your system using apps like (ultra iso, Alcohol 120% etc) if you have xp, vista, or win 7. If you have win 8 just double click the ISO it will automatically mount the drive to your pc and will look like this in my computer

pw2 Step 2

Open the mounted drive and load the file HBCDMenu.cmd

pw3 Step 3

launch the app NTPWEdit from the program menu like this:

pw1 Step 4

Plug in the Hard Drive using the External HDD connector and note the drive letter

Step 5

Change the drive letter in the path to SAM file to the corresponding drive letter of the connected External Hard Disk
pw4

 Step 6

When the letter is changed the various users on the HDD will appear and you’ll be able to unlock or change the password appropriately

 Step 7

When your finished remember to save all changes and exit. After this is done properly eject the HDD and mount it back into your system and boot up.

Method 2

Using your own PC after downloading the app with another PC

Step 1

Burn the ISO using appropriate apps

Step 2

Insert the disk you made in step 1 into your own PC and boot from it.

Step 3

Select Mini Windows XP from the menu and allow to boot

Step 4

When the mini xp has finished loading, load the menu
hbcd
Then follow the steps 3 to step 6 above

Step 5

Shut down the Mini xp operating system, remove the disk and boot up your system normally.

Note:
There are other ways to get the job done, however i have found this method to be the most user friendly since it is done from a graphic user interface (GUI)
